Queensland X-Ray Facility

Base build construction of QLD X-Ray’s new facility in Highfields, Toowoomba

This project consisted of the base build construction and a 315m2 internal fit out for Queensland X-ray’s new facility located in Highfields, Toowoomba.
The building has a total of 16 rooms that consisted of two ultrasound rooms, CT room, control office, X-ray room, doctor’s office, PWD toilet, ambulant toilet, store room, comms room, typing office, reception and waiting area. This also included two subwait areas and an emergency stretcher area in the hallways.
The size of Queensland X-Ray’s equipment influenced the construction as the design of the CT scanning and X-Ray rooms was key to getting the right layout as the machines were difficult to move because of their size, shape and weight.
One of the most interesting components of the build was applying a different treatment to the internal walls. Each wall and any other penetration had to be treated with lead for radiation protection.
This project was completed within a 6 month time frame.
