Amaroo Eco Classroom
The project is a new classroom at Amaroo Environmental School. In line with the school’s sustainability focus, the building was designed to meet a Green Star rating, an internationally recognised
sustainability certification. This approach ensures the building is constructed in the most environmentally responsible way, minimising material waste, reducing energy usage, protecting the local ecology and preventing environmental degradation. The classroom incorporates eco-friendly concrete for the footings and slab, using Wagner’s EFC concrete, which replaces traditional concrete powder with recycled by-products. The design also features rammed earth walls made from local soils, low-VOC paints and materials, and temperature probes that enable students to explore
the effectiveness of insulation. Sections of external walls and ceilings are left exposed for educational purposes.
The new classroom at Amaroo Environmental School represents a meaningful step toward sustainability and environmental education. Through its eco-friendly construction and integration of green building practices, the project will provide long-term benefits to the school and the broader community. The successful completion of the project within the five month timeframe highlights Newlands’ commitment to delivering quality results on schedule, creating a valuable educational resource for future generations.
